FIT Hair Transplant Method
FIT (Follicular Unit Extraction) is one of the minimally invasive hair transplant methods with the least amount of pain and bleeding. This method has a very short recovery period, allowing the patient to return to their normal routine immediately. Hair transplant candidates first receive a consultation from the relevant doctor and then undergo necessary tests. The treatment method is determined based on the hair loss pattern, which can be either medical or surgical.
Steps of the Hair Transplant Procedure:
Patient visits the treatment center.
Free consultation by the relevant doctor.
Necessary tests are conducted.
Hairline design.
Photography.
Extraction of follicular units from donor areas.
Preparation and preservation of follicular units.
Transplantation of follicular units.
Medication administration.
Follow the doctor's recommendations.
Visit to the Treatment Center
First, a file is created for you at the treatment center, and your information is recorded. Then, you will have a consultation with the relevant doctor, discussing your requests and goals. The doctor will inform you about the details of the procedure, cost, required time, and other matters. Your hair transplant appointment is then scheduled, and you will be sent for the necessary tests.
Necessary Tests
Depending on your medical history, certain tests will be required. It is advisable to visit the lab for these tests two to three days before the procedure on an empty stomach. This test, usually a blood test, is essential for performing the hair transplant.
Hairline Design
The hairline is designed based on mutual agreement between the patient and doctor. The doctor considers the patient's donor area and the extent of baldness, then marks an initial design on the scalp using a special marker. The hair transplant is performed according to these lines, which act as a guide.
Pre-Procedure Photography
Photographs are taken from different angles of the scalp to be recorded in the patient's file and for final comparison. These photos are taken by the clinic staff with the clinic's camera.
Extraction of Follicular Units from Donor Areas
The donor area or hair bank is the region from where the necessary hair for transplantation is harvested and donated to the bald areas of the scalp. This area is numbed with local anesthesia, and the required follicles are extracted using a tool called a punch. The number of follicular units extracted in one session depends on the patient's hair density, ranging from approximately 1500 to 2500 units, which correspond to around 4000 to 8000 hairs. This amount may vary based on the donor area's existing density.
Preparation and Preservation of Follicular Units
After extraction, the follicular units are placed in an appropriate preservation solution. Proper preparation and preservation of the follicular units are critical for a successful hair transplant.
Transplantation of Follicular Units
In this stage, the extracted follicular units are transplanted into the bald areas of the scalp, which are numbed with local anesthesia. Afterward, your scalp is bandaged, and you are sent home until the next stage of the transplant. This process takes 1 to 3 days. In each session, a specified number of hair follicles are transplanted, and the transplant area is then bandaged.
Advantages of Hair Transplantation Using FIT Method:
The extraction site for the hair graft is not visible.
The skin at the transplant site is entirely natural without depressions or bumps.
The transplanted hair looks completely natural.
Maximum possible hair density is achieved in one session.
90% to 100% of the transplanted hair grows.
The most natural hairline is created at the front compared to other hair transplant methods.
Hair transplant sessions can be repeated every 9 months up to four times to complete the bald area coverage or increase density.
Body hair (chest and shoulders) can be used for hair transplantation if needed.
No recovery period is required after the transplant as it is an outpatient procedure.
No follow-up visit is needed after the hair transplant session.
Disadvantages of Hair Transplantation Using FIT Method:
This method takes longer to perform than the FUT method and requires more sessions.
Hair needs to be cut short on the sides and back of the head for this method.
